All Sustainability is Local
This is a collection of Tom's work in forest ecology across Canada and the northern U.S. Tom works on High Conservation Values (HCVs) and tenure modernization in Ontario. This web page also has some discussion of the role of certification and the methods of auditing.
A few pictures from audits (Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Ontario)
The pages on this site are a collection of pictures and reports about auditing. It deals with how forest managers address conservation issues. Highlights:
Feb 16, 2017 presentation to the Trent Environmental Studies class on Certification in Canada. My opinion.
Here is a news clip I did on local CTV News about our emerald ash borer invasion in Muskoka.
Tom presented at the Biodiversity Summit on May 21 2015 in Niagara Falls. A copy of his presentation called "Practical Forest Conservation using the Market: FSC on the Ground" is HERE.
Tom updated his page on this website >Assessing Real risk to HCVs -- the HCV Conundrum.
All of Tom's HCV reports are reviewed by experts in the field of resource management. Reviewing these reports is an FSC requirement. These review are available as the last appendix in each HCV report itself. The reviews all follow protocol set out by the HCV Resource Network. Check the reports at: Example Reports: High Conservation Value Forests

Tom was the keynote speaker at the Ontario Forestry Association annual meeting on February 21st 2014. His talk was entitled Community Forestry -- Winning the Cup
Tom is not political, supporting any elected representative who supports environmental progress. One of those who is not one of Tom's favourite people is (soon to be former) MPP Randy Hillier (search for "Clark" on this LINK). As we all know, Tom is a "Moneyed Toronto Eco-lobbyist!" Thanks Randy! I have received lots of appreciation for being castigated by you.
